Women Health Checklist

Though health is important for everyone, but women need to be more conscious about their health because they are more prone to health issues. Why? Because women have more complex bodies, more number of hormones and thus more chances of disorders. Polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD) and fibroids have become so common these days.  Women are also more prone to disorders such as osteoporosis and urinary tract infections. Another indirect health risk is that women are expected to play several roles all at the same time… managing home, elders of the family, kids and also excel at work. Each of them is a full time job. Juggling between all the responsibilities leads to negligence and stress, which in turn lead to health issues.

Ladies…. Only your body will stay with you till your last breath, no one else will. So make your health your priority. Among the hustle of life, take some time out for your health too.

Here is the health check list. I know that most of you know most of the following, but I also know that most of you tend to forget most of these. Enough of ‘most’, just write these points somewhere and make sure you do all of the following things to keep your body healthy.

Health Checklist

Regular Body Check-up

If you are 35 years old, or older, do get a regular body check-up every year. Keep a close watch on your blood pressure and blood glucose level. Get the level of Vitamin D and hemoglobin checked. Take the required measures without fail if any deficiency is found.

Also, regularly check yourself for any signs of breast cancer.

Pap Smear Test

We always feel that nothing can happen to us, we can never have cancer. Please have a look at the figures; how many new cancer cases are there every year. And trust me, each one of them was equally sure that they cannot ever have cancer.

Cervical cancer is a very common type of cancer, but is preventable or curable if detected early. Keeping its high prevalence in mind, you should get pap smear test done every 3 years. Pap smear is a test which detects the pre-cancerous cells is the cervix tissue and thus oncologist can prevent the deadly cervical cancer. Meet your gynecologist and get the test done if you are above the age of 21 years.

Keep Hormonal Issues (PCOD, Fibroid) Away

PCOD has become as common as flu these days. All thanks to modern unhealthy lifestyle. At least 20% of all the ladies reading this must be suffering or have suffered from PCOD. While PCOD is this common, the good news is that it can be managed or prevented by healthy lifestyle. Although the exact cause of PCOD and fibroids is unknown, researchers claim that they are caused due to high level of estrogen in the body. When estrogen level increases in the body, the liver is supposed to metabolize it. But we keep our liver so occupied in metabolizing the toxins that we ingest in form of junk food, that it fails to metabolize estrogen efficiently. So stop eating chemicals, preservatives, canned food etc. Follow healthy eating habits and maintain a healthy weight.

Stress management

Stress has become an integral part of our lives. Stress is one major reason of many health issues such as hypertension and PCOD. While we cannot escape completely, we can at least adopt a positive approach towards how we handle the difficulties in life. Don’t stress too much. Take a deep breath and tell yourself… “It is okay. It is common. I can deal with it. It will pass’. Stay relaxed. Count your blessings and know that you are in a situation much better than several.

Physical Activity

Physical activity in any form is extremely important. No matter how tired you are, at least 30 minutes of physical exercise is necessary. It will make you feel more energetic, not more tired. Now it is your choice what you do… walking, yoga, running, swimming or join a dance class.

Stop Unhealthy Dieting

Losing weight is important as obesity itself leads to several health issues. But your priority should be a healthy body. Do not starve yourself in order to get curves. Every body has its own rate of metabolism. 5-7 kilograms up or down is fine if you are eating healthy and feeling healthy. Also, if you focus on health and eat healthy, you will automatically attain a healthy weight.

Get Enough Sound Sleep

Sleep is as important as food is for body. Are you getting 7 hours of sleep every day? 6 hours may also be enough if you are sleeping properly, undisturbed sound sleep.

While going to bed, leave all the worries to be handled the next day. Create soothing environment in your bedroom. Your room should be clean, uncluttered, and have right temperature. If you still find it difficult to sleep peacefully, spend 10 minutes on something that make you feel relaxed and happy. Play with your child, talk to your partner, read a book, listen to the music, take a shower, or simply meditate. Have a productive day and a positive attitude… and you will surely be able to sleep properly at night.

Calcium and Vitamin D

Balanced Diet

Calcium is very important for everyone, but it is especially essential for women after crossing the age of 30 years. Now a days, osteoporosis has become more common and at an early age. An adult needs 1000 mg of calcium per day. A glass of milk contains around 300 mg calcium, and 50 gram of mozzarella cheese contains around 350 mg calcium. So plan your diet accordingly to intake enough amount of calcium every day. Avoid taking calcium supplements and try to fulfill the body’s calcium needs through natural sources only.

As you very well know that vitamin D is essential for the absorption of calcium, Vitamin D is equally important. Vitamin D is abundantly available in sunlight, so get enough of it. Don’t worry about tanning, tanning can be managed later. Health is more important.

Vitamins

Vitamins are important for the normal functioning of the body, and for its immunity also. Take enough of fruits to fulfil your body’s requirements for vitamins. Include a variety of fruits and vegetables in your daily diet to obtain all the vitamins.

Proteins

As we grow up (or grow old), we tend to feel more tired. We need proteins to maintain the well-being and stamina of our body. Proteins also help us to lose/maintain weight (if taken properly). Include beans, rajma, pulses, soya etc. daily in your diet to ensure you intake enough proteins.

Detoxify

Detoxify your body at regular intervals.

How?

Do everything that is mentioned above to keep your body free of toxins.

And In addition to these, fast at regular intervals. During fasting, drink plenty of healthy fluids, eat raw fruits and vegetables, and drink soups.

So folks… wake up now and keep yourself healthy… this is what matters the most…
