Weight Loss Hacks that really Worked

Every girl feels that she has to lose weight. In fact we all are eager to shed extra pounds and get in beautiful shape. Still, we do not. Why? Because losing weight is a difficult project and its success depends on several factors. However, keeping the severe cases (very obese, hormonal or medical reasons) aside, weight can be lost gradually yet successfully. Losing weight gradually is also long lasting, because the weight is lost by improving the habits which can be followed life long, not by crash diet or rigorous work outs which are not sustainable for long. This is where Weight Loss Hacks need to kick in.

When I realized that I have gained a lot of weight, I became so anxious to lose it. Yet, I could not, because a foodie like me cannot follow a zero size friendly diet. Also, I am too lazy to exercise regularly. Foodie and lazy, and still need to lose weight… Is that even possible? Yes, it is possible; as I said above, this is where Weight Loss Hacks are needed.

Being a researcher, I have a habit of experimenting and also confirming the results. So the weight loss hacks, tips and tricks given below are practically worked out, and their efficiency is confirmed by running several control tests (let me know in comments if you want to know more on this). These hacks have really worked for me. I have lost a few kilos and more importantly, I am able to maintain the weight without any extra efforts. So these tips will surely help you too in your journey of losing/maintaining the weight. Also, it’s not only about losing weight, it’s about maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Even if you don’t have those extra pounds to shed, follow these tips and tricks to maintain your body in a healthy state. Please read on.

Sweet Tooth:

If you too have a sweet tooth like me, I can understand your agony. Losing weight for people like us is all the more difficult. But don’t worry, we don’t have to keep our desires (for sweets) unsatisfied, we just need to replace the unhealthy sweets with the healthy ones. Opt for healthy sweets; such as raisins (kishmish), dates, amla candy, fig (anjeer) etc. Trust me… they will really satisfy the cravings, yet won’t add much to the calories bank. Keep them handy (in a box on the table or in your office bag) to put this in your habits.

Warm Water:

Everyone knows that drinking hot water helps in losing weight. But first let me tell you, you should drink ‘warm’ water, not ‘hot’. In fact, drinking too much hot water will badly harm the inner lining of your gut. Now, hopefully you already know how warm water results in weight loss, yes, warm water helps in melting of fats. But where is the hack? The hack is:

Though we know that we should drink warm water, but who has the time to go to the kitchen every time, take water in the pan, put it on stove, wait for a minute, pour it back in the glass, then come back to the room, sit, and then drink. Ufff…. Very tiring, right? When we feel thirsty, we do not have this much of time and patience and we simply open the bottle kept on the side table and drink the water. Even I do the same. So why not replace your bed side water bottle with a thermos flask/bottle. At least twice or thrice we can heat up the water and fill our thermos bottle. This way you can have the warm water immediately whenever you want. Remember that the water has to be warm (not hot) so that you can easily drink it from your bottle just the way you drink normal water.

Weight Loss Drink:

You must have read and heard a lot about weight loss drinks which are to be made and consumed in the morning. But who has that much of time. Okay, if you don’t have the time to make weight loss drink, then just add one tablespoon each of cumin (jeera), carom (ajwain) and chia seeds in your regular water bottle and drink it the way you drink normal water from your bottle (shake it well every time). At least 1 liter of water can be consumed this way. Also, if the water is warm, it will be even more effective. These ingredients also help in improving your digestion which too ultimately aids in losing weight.

Do not over sleep:

Every one tells you that you should sleep enough. Very right, you should, because lack of sleep affects your overall health adversely. But the other side of the coin is that you should not oversleep also. When you sleep, your body is not active. So that means that if you sleep more than required, your body will stay active for lesser hours a day.
Less activity means less burning of calories. So do not sleep too much. Try to avoid sleeping during the day, and take 7 hours of sound sleep during the night only. Sleep on time and wake up on time. Stay active, stay healthy.

Use stairs:

Yeah, yeah, I know this is the most common tip and everyone knows it, but it is worth mentioning every time. Though this is difficult, but this really makes a difference. Okay, keep it a little easy for yourself. Climb stairs only for 1 floor, and take escalator/elevator for rest of them if/when there are more than 1 floor to climb.

Going down? It is much easier than going up; so try to take stairs all the time, for all the floors.

Exercise:

Exercise regularly…

Exercise? Really? Why one would be looking for hacks if she can exercise. Wait, I am coming to the hack. If you do not have time for a full-fledged workout session every day, then identify at least 2-3 exercises that are most effective in weight loss and works good for you (or the exercises that focus on your problematic parts). Before leaving bed, spend only 5 minutes doing those couple of exercises. I am sure 5 minutes is not that big a cost. But just do it before leaving bed in the morning, because I know how difficult it is to come back to the bed again.

Let me know in the comments if you want me to tell you about most effective exercises that gave me the results in just 10 days.

Walk a lot

Again, another very common tip, right? But tell me honestly, do you really follow it?  No? Then why should we not include this in the list? So ladies, don’t make excuses and walk as much as you can. For instance, ask your husband to take rest and you go yourself to the market to fetch milk and bread.

Divide meals in portions:

Eat your meals in portions. For example if you normally eat 2 chapatis, eat them at an interval of 1 hour, 1 chapati at a time. The idea behind this is that you should not feel completely full. Trust me, this hack is very effective.

Early Dinner:

Ufff… another universally known yet difficult tip. But don’t worry, I won’t ask you to eat nothing after 6 pm, because I know it is not possible for ‘always hungry’ people like me. I tried this several times and ended up eating Maggi at midnight because I could not sleep due to hunger. So let’s know the hack here. What you have to do is to eat a complete meal at 5-6 pm (in parts); and then have a very small portion at dinner time, like half chapatti, or half a bowl of rice, or half a bowl of cornflakes. This much would be enough because you had a full meal in the evening. I know that in total you would be eating more, but trust me, this still is much better than having a complete meal at night.

Right amount of Water:

Everyone must have told you to drink enough water; obey them because they are right. But, I will tell you to not to drink water in excess; obey me too because I am also right. 3-3.5 liter water a day should be enough (no less, no more). Excess water will result in swelling of the body due to water retention.

Chew your food properly:

Chew your food properly, and do not have your meal in a hurry. Give it all the time it deserves. It will help you feel full and satiated.

Substitute Sugar in Beverages:

jaggery

I am one of those lucky people who do not feel the need to drink tea or coffee all the time. But I am very well aware of the people’s addiction of tea. Okay, keep your love for tea; just switch the sugar in your beverages with ‘Desi Khaand’ or ‘Gur’ (jaggery), the indian sweetners. It’s not that they are not sweet or do not have calories, but they definitely are the healthier substitutes of refined sugar and a bit less fattening. And don’t worry; it won’t compromise the taste of your heavenly Tea.

So these are the 12 weight loss hacks that worked for me. I hope they will work for you too. Let me know if they do. Wish you all the very best…
