Green Coffee for Weight Loss: Review and Experience

So as I had promised in my post about weight loss drinks, I am writing this detailed review on Green Coffee after having used it for more than 2 months.

What is Green Coffee

First thing first; What is Green Coffee? Green Coffee is the coffee which is green in color, not brown like the usual coffee. Why is it green and not brown? Because green is the natural color of the coffee; coffee turns brown after roasting.

So basically, the usual coffee that we consume is the roasted coffee while green coffee is not roasted. This is the only difference between green coffee and usual coffee, but this difference makes all the difference.

Reported Mechanism

Coffee contains high amounts of an ingredients known as Chlorogenic Acid. While the coffee beans are roasted, most of this chlorogenic acid is lost. Since green coffee is not roasted, it contains ample of cholorogenic acid. This cholorogenic acid is the key ingredient here. It is a strong antioxidant, which in addition to weight loss, provides other health benefits too.

Cholorogenic acid is reported to increase the metabolism and also to help body better manage its blood glucose levels. Thus, it also helps in controlling diabetes.

Studies have also found that green coffee (chlorogenic acid) helps in better management of blood pressure also.

How does it Look like?

As the name says, green, it is supposed to be green in color. But it is not. It is very pale and light greenish in color. The color actually cannot be described. (I tried taking the picture in all types of lights, but could not capture the actual color. The actual color is just a little more greenish than what it looks like in the picture).

Green coffee powder

And it’s smell? It is no where near to the tempting aroma of usual coffee. Green coffee smells like raw seeds. The smell is not bad, but not at all pleasing either.

Where to buy

Green coffee is very commonly available these days on almost all grocery stores. Green coffee is a bit expensive, but worth trying.

I buy loose green coffee powder from a local ayurvedic store. This is more affordable and trustworthy. I suggest you to buy powder and not beans. Since beans are very hard, you will need a really strong grinder to make a powder out of it.

How I make it

Scientists say that the right way of making tea and coffee (even the usual ones) is not to put the coffee or tea on stove and boil; the right way is to boil only the water/milk and add it to the cup having tea/coffee.

So I boil water, add it in the cup which has green coffee powder and cover it for 5 minutes. Afterwards, I add one spoon each of apple cider vinegar and honey to it, for that tangy taste, as well as for added benefits.

My Experience

I started noticing the results in about 15 days. This is the only weight loss drink that showed effects on the face too. I noticed natural contouring after 15 days.

Weight loss was also evident. With normal diet and routine, I lost almost 50-100 gram daily. But on the days when I ate outside or junk, I gained weight. So, it helps in weight loss only if we otherwise follow healthy habits.

Also, Green coffee increased my appetite like anything. I used to feel hungry more than ever. Another thing that happened was more frequent urination. Increased hunger and more frequent urination, both are the signs of increased metabolism.

Any Side Effects?

Green Coffee contains as much caffeine as the normal coffee, or may be even higher. So it will have all the effects that caffeine has, for example, insomnia if you consume it in high amounts.

Consuming twice a day (a tablespoon each time), I did not experience any side effect.

Final Verdict

If you can better manage your hunger pangs (by eating healthy and non-fattening), Green Coffee is surely one of the most effective weight loss drinks. Those who are trying to lose weight should definitely give it a try. But keep in mind, green coffee or other such things only aid in weight loss. If you eat junk, nothing can result in weight loss.

Also, I would suggest you to keep changing your weight loss drink every 4-6 months, because our body adapts to things and thus stops responding after some time.
